Silverstone TJ01

The Silverstone TJ01 is a case of contrasts, and I am not just talking about the colour scheme. The case uses the same chassis as the Coolermaster Centurion. This is a cheap and flimsy steel structure, made of pop rivets and sharp edges. However, from the outside this seems to be a very high quality case. The front panel and door are solid aluminium extrusions with a beautiful finish, held securely together with hex head bolts.

Silverstone have made a case with a front panel that you would expect on a £200 case and a chassis with the low quality you would expect in a case costing £10. This is not a case for those who enjoy tinkering with a computers guts, even the awkward side panel removal system discourages the user from opening it up.

The cooling provision is barely adequate, with twin 60mm fans at the front, and a single 80mm exhaust at the rear, which is choked by an excessively restrictive finger guard. That said the exterior of the case is extremely attractive. It wears the retro look well, contrasting bare brushed aluminium with areas painted in a very deep gloss navy blue, so dark as to almost be black. For a computer which will be built up and left alone, the TJ01 may well be ideal, since all the £75 you will pay for the case has been put into the parts the average user sees and touches every day. If you are the type that only puts the side panels back on your case for going to LAN parties, this is not the case for you.
