I think I would be correct in assuming that 100% of people here, either own an optical drive or work with them. By optical drive, I mean - CD Player, CD Drive, DVD, VideoCD and other such things. I think I would also be correct in saying 100% of you have suffered from data corruption, screen freezing, skipping or just plain inaccess due to scratches, dirt, fingerprints and other such ailments.

Now, if I suffer from these problems. The first thing I do, is take out the disc and clean it on my t-shirt (assuming it's soft). And a lot of the time, this is enough. But when you have scratches, it needs a little more than a clean. That is where the products I am reviewing today come in. Today we have Dr Fix It and SkipDr on the chopping board, both claiming to restore scratched and damaged disc to optimal condition by grinding away and resurfacing the CD's. Make's sense, but does it work?

First up: Dr Fix It...

The Dr Fix It package is very impressive. It is a motorised system, so takes little effort on your part. It comes with a lot of parts, which can be very confusing. It comes with different discs which should be put inside the device depending on what stage of repair you are at.

Resurfacing is a two stage process, the pink discs don't require any fluid and grind off the surface layer. The yellow discs use a repair paste, and basically do the resurfacing. It also comes with a cleaning kit, which cleans a disc without any grinding, but instead using an isopropanol reservoir. It also comes with a deep scratch pad (which is for manually removing some of the deeper scratches) and a cleaning cloth - for removing residue left behind after the grinding process.
