This drive is Maxtors big and slow offering. The MaXline range
of drives are intended to be used as storage drives, and Maxtor emphasize
reliability and price above performance.
The drive we have for review here is the 250 GB Maxline 2, which spins at
a mere 5400 rpm, and sports only 2MB of cache. This drive is not to be confused
with the MaXline 2 Plus range, which are 7200 rpm parts.
The drive runs cool and quiet, only reaching a maximum of 35 degrees Celsius.
This is one of the few drives in this group test which run cool enough for you
to stack up several of them and sandwich them into a poorly ventilated case.
Unfortunately, performance is rather bad, and this is the slowest drive in the
group test. Since the much faster Hitachi Deskstar offers the same capacity
for the same price, there is very little reason to recommend this drive.
