TinyPC

Ed: Reader Patrick Beaumont was kind enough to share with us his Tiny PC project, written in his rather "unique" style..

This project began with my friend Dave Artschan (writer for Spode's Abode). He had recently built his own case out of aluminium boxes. This was a coincidence as my mother had just approached me to build her a PC and was willing to stump up the cash for it (I love that phrase!). So I decided to make her one on the similiar lines of Daves but using a smaller motherboard. The VIA Epia Mini ITX C3 800

The board measures in at 17cm by 17cm (for those of you with rulers thats 2cm more than 15cm), which is pretty tiny. I ordered for the PC a 30gig hard drive, VIA motherboard, 256 meg of RAM, mouse, keyboard etc... You know basically I ordered a PC apart from the case, CD drive and floppy drive. I then ordered an aluminium box, some LED fittings, a button and other such things. I'll give details of products and shops at the end.

All this equipment eventually came and I got to work. My home for the next few days was this delightful little number (my garage for those not up on estate agent speak).

My Garage

Yes my garage is a bit messy and dirty but it would suffice for the moment.
