The D865PERL motherboard is based on the Springdale chipset, which is a cut down version of the Canterwood. The Springdale is marketed as the 865PE chipset. The main difference is Springdale does not have Intel's new PAT technology, which speeds up memory access. This motherboard however, is aimed at the high end workstation market, and wouldn't be out of place in a low end server either. The feature list includes an 800mhz FSB, SATA, Dual DDR, and Gigabit Ethernet. New features include SoundMAX 4 Audio, and a BIOS recovery mode that allows you to recover from a failed BIOS update.

The motherboard I received from Intel was a pre-release sample in a brown box. It didn't come with a full manual, so I cant make any comment about the documentation. I was also sent a 3.2ghz P4 with Hyper-Threading, and an Intel retail cooler.
