Aerocool "Lubic"

The Aerocool Lubic is a build your own kit, along the lines of a giant Meccano kit. The box contains a set of aluminium bars of various lengths, a selection of brackets, some perspex panels and four castor wheels. The idea is that you can build any style of case you fancy with the parts. Unfortunately, the instructions only show you how to make a simple mid tower case. The instructions themselves are impossible to follow and seem to have been written by a schizophrenic with a shaky grasp of the English language. The only way to build the case is to squint at the rather small photos and use a bit of guesswork.

The kit does not include enough parts to allow you to get really creative without making modifications and adding home made parts. The kit relies on the use of small nuts, which are slid into the aluminium bars, to allow you to screw other parts onto them. This requires a certain amount of planning, since the only way to add another nut to an already assembled section is to dismantle it. The Lubic is also time consuming. It can easily take two or three hours to build your case.

The open frame of the case is ideal for people that constantly tinker with their computer, but the limitations of the kit mean the user must be willing to do some modifications to achieve the results they want. The small kit costs £66.96 inc VAT. There is also a large kit, but this only includes a few extra parts to enable you to extend the tower case to accommodate two more CD-Rom drives.
