The Samsung 730MP is more than just a monitor, it's a multimedia device. It has TV and FM radio capabilities built in, small integrated speakers, and slot in module on the side which adds a USB hub and 5 in 1 card reader.

The monitor is very well built and heavy, and the back is populated with a huge number of sockets. We found that the screen automatically adjusted itself perfectly, which is a good thing because the OSD is confusing. It comes with a good quality remote control as well. A rather cool feature is picture-in-picture, which allows you to watch TV in a small corner of the screen whilst using your PC. The inclusion of SCART, S-video and composite video inputs mean this screen has enough connectivity to serve as the hub of a home entertainment system. However, it is a good PC monitor in its own right, and 17" is a little small for the front room. This means perhaps it would be better suited to a small bedroom, where a separate PC and TV would just be too cramped.

At a couple of beer tokens shy of £400 you could buy a very well specified 19" TFT for the same money, but since the Samsung 730 MP is a good quality monitor in its own right. This is still cheaper than the combined cost of a monitor and a television, so it is definitely worth it if you want the multimedia features
