I just discovered that someone somehow managed to get access to my Google Account. This was bad news because I had Google Checkout details saved there and someone has treated themselves to an £800 laptop. Naturally I got straight onto the phone with the bank but it's very worrying. Password changed and the card cancelled; hopefully it will be enough.
That is worrying. Any ideas how they did it?
Absolutely no idea. They evidently had access to my Google account since before 10pm last night as I sent an email to eBuyer (where it was bought from) saying that I hadn't placed the order and could they not ship it, but two minutes later the person had used my email account to send another email saying something along the lines of "sorry about that, actually I did place the order".
I never received "order confirmation" emails so evidently this person has been checking my account and deleted them (they're not in trash either).
On the other hand, I do have their address and mobile phone number...
Time to let the police in on it. Maybe a day in jail will stop it.

So much for Google checkout being secure! I deleted my Google checkout details as I found that I lost control of the orders I made through them. I will explain: I ordered some memory from of all places, e buyer, but discovered half an hour later that is was the wrong stuff. I tried to cancel the order to re order the correct goods, but Google couldn't do it quickly enough. By the time my e mail reached e buyer, it was too late and the memory was dispatched.
That involved an RMA and all the hassle that goes with. When I re ordered, Google for some reason cancelled it? It was a different order number and different goods. Well, that was that, I removed my card details and have not used it since.
I hope you get it sorted Lawrence, I wonder how the cretin managed to get at your account? ![]()
ouch! Using Wireless access Lolly? Maybe someone sniffed your stuff out of the air. Definitely get the police on it ASAP.
No wireless. Shall ring the police today.
There are a number of explots for Gmail at the moment - whilst logged into Gmail, a malicious site can send a dodgy POST request to Gmail via embedded iframes through which a number of things can be done. I'm not sure if the holes have been patched up yet, but this was one such instance of a person losing a domain via one of these particular attacks.
I run a separate browser install which I use exclusively for online banking, email and absolutely nothing more.
