One annoying aspect of my EeePC review sample, is the PSU is American, so it means carrying around a US adapter with me everywhere - kind of negates the point of having such a small laptop and PSU. Most PSU's now support 110-250V, so the need to adapt the voltage is unnecessary - only the pinout is different. Knowing this, I decided to convert mine.

I happened to have an old 19V laptop brick lying around that had stopped working, so I took out the figure of eight socket. With some action from the side snips and a file, I got rid of the large bulk of plastic, leaving a nice rounded socket.

On the original power supply, once again with some action from the side snips, I removed the US pins, and some of the plastic holding it in place. I then had to whittle down the area that my figure of eight connector was going to fit into.

I ran some wires through, soldered them to where the pins previously connected and put the PSU back together. I filled the gaping hole with some hot glue, and trimmed up with edges with a knife. The finishing result is quite pleasing :)

Looking back on it now - I could probably have soldered the figure of eight connection straight onto the US pins, but the plan wasn't solid from the start!

Your abilities to cut, file an solder will never cease to amaze me Spode. If you put your mind to it, you could re-invent the wheel an it'd be 10x better than it is now.
