The CMOS on the computer I built for dad suddenly set itself to Default and time to January 2002. And in one day the clock has just lost 16 hours.

Im guessing battery problem...but just wanted to check! Any thoughts?

You can check by clearing the CMOS (with the jumper), setting the time, unplugging the system for a while and then turning it back on. If it's still losing time, replace the battery.

I would also say that it is the battery that is responsible for that problem. I had to change my CMOS-batteries in each of my PCs at least once. Bad batteries can be down within 2-3 years.
