Just thought I'd post this up, have a look. I'd like to hear some views on what you guys think.
Is it even possible that it could happen?
You know these emails that go around telling you about some new virus, and how you *have* to tell everyone in your address book...
This is the same thing. It's utter garbage. There's no truth to it at all - besides the fact that most ISP's make most of their money from BUSINESSES and NOT from individuals (and those Business dollars will dry up if they do this) no company could ever restrict your Internet activity like that without everyone going somewhere else. And someone will allways pop up to cater for demand - if the big ISP's do this, they'll create several new big ISP's as the customer's jump ship to smaller, less restrictive ISP's, along with the Business clients.
I have friends who work for ISP's. One who works for Sky. Trust me, if this were actually happening, I'd have heard about it.
What you should be worried about is ISP's installing caches to catch and filter out traffic such as peer to peer, VoIP and so on. These caches litterally sit between you and wherever you are browsing to, and proxy your connections (basically your average every day man-in-the-middle attack).
I thought 2012 was the year they find a guitar behind a waterfall?
Well, it's the year traffic in London doubles and the preparations for the Olympics are just behind target...
I got to thinking last night - and this smacks of viral advertising to me. They're just generating traffic.
There is a move toward "channelisation" on the net, but that's totally outside of the web. That's basically Sky and other media providers wanting to provide traditional (and some less traditional) content *on top of* the normal web services. There is no talk of restricting the web, but adding extra services to it that you have to pay to use.
Which is new in what way???
2012 is when the Aztec or Mayan calendar ends. I forget which. Its the end of everything as we know it so this will be the least of our worries.

Well, I do know some people think 2012 is when oil will start to run out, and big wars start over dwindling oil reserves.
Time to start irrigating the deserts of Africa, so they can grow us biodiesel and bioethanol to run our cars on. And build nuclear power plants to supply our power...
It's also the year when the ice-cap melting becomes irreversible, and we all drown. And when the scientology spaceship turns up to tickle us all with a really long ticklestick from orbit. And when cheese prices start to rival house prices. And the planets align, allowing meaningful communication with Scotch Terriers and Border Collies. And World War III. And a decent Matrix sequel, that ignores the last 2 (a "Re-imagining" ). Heck of a year, that.
