at PC World. After many years of red tape and struggling with the bureaucracy of the immigration department, my wife was finally sworn in as a US citizen. ![]()
She was one of 1,537 new citizens from 53 countries to be sworn in. That is the biggest number at one time, at this location.

Congratulations!
Cool. I always thought marriage pretty much guaranteed you citizenship. What makes it so difficult?
Where's she from? I would naturally assume, given your location, she'd be Mexican.
Thank you. crazy pete, yes, Mexican. It was difficult because the person handling our case left the immigration service and our case sat there for a long time with no one working it.
The red tape was also a big head ache.
My wife did ace her exam. ![]()
Congrats, Balky! Or I should say congrats to your wife... ![]()
My commiserations to your wife on becoming a 'merican.
I mean congratulations! Ooops. Inner voice/outer voice mixup again...

Congratulations!
That's one helluva big flag...
Can I add my congratulations to your wife Ivan.
It's not enough here just to be married to an Englishman these day either. One of my buddies is married to a lovely Chinese lass and had to do a few exams to get a British passport. Most of the questions were horrendous! We asked around twenty people these questions and none of us born and bred here Brits knew any of them. the Strange thing was my pal Muzamel, who's parents are Pakistani knew quite a few of them!
We found out after she gleaned up on them it was how you answered, not so much that the answers were correct. She passed with the colours flying and now has a full British passport. I was very worrying for them both at the time. IIRC one of them was "How long did Oliver Cromwell reign"! Thank Buddha (insert your own God here) for Google. ![]()
Thanks all! ![]()
