Hi guy's and gal's ( I don't want to miss Lorna) This summer took off with a roar. We had almost a week in the upper 80's and lower 90's the beginning of June. I put in almost 107 hours of work in one week. Need less to say it has not slowed down much. Our economy is slow so I can't afford not to work as much as possible now, because I might end up with a lot of spare time later. I do miss having time to visit. Coyote, have you had your surgery, and did it go well? Everyone with a little time tell me what your best summer bit of funs been. ![]()
It is hot and humid here. It looks like we got our monsoon flow early this year. The rain is helping keep everything green which is hard to do here. It is also cooling off the 100F+ weather we were having but my swamp cooler is not working very well with all the humidity in the air. I relax and light the grill when I can. Probably going to have a grilling session with some friends this weekend. ![]()
I've heard more than one person here moaning a about the poor summer we're having but I really can't understand what they mean. As my work involves me being out in a van most days, I have to say I think it's been pretty sunny this year, but we've also had enough rain to keep reservoirs topped up. Last year we were beginning to think hosepipe bans were just something we'd have to get used to as part of the new global climate. Now, if anything, the weather seems to be a little tropical alternating between hot and heavy rain. The garden seems especially lush anyway.
A BBQ seems like a damn fine plan, Ivan, something I keep talking about but never get round to. Just done a quick Fahrenheit to Celsius calculation, good grief!!
Personally summer's going good, last week I got back from this year's summer holiday, a motorcycle trip down to the French Alps camping, which was a week of discomfort punctuated with excellent scenery and great roads. As ever the hard bits only made the good bits sweeter.
I've just re-found an old friend to go mountain biking with which was my whole life up until the point I got my driving licence, and I'm pleased to report that it hasn't lost any of it's appeal. The only thing missing from my summer this year will be surfing, at which I suck, but enjoy because the interaction with the ocean and the forces of nature.
This will be the defining picture of summer 2008 for me:

Oh wow! What a view! ![]()
Nothing like grilling and relaxing with friends/family.
This year we have been experimenting. I have been grilling anything and everything I can get my hands on.
Just bought a book on grilling and have expanded my grilling horizons.
So far the family favorite is the shrimp in tamarind sauce I did a month ago.
Sounds good! I just had to look up tamarind on Wikipedia
, I thought it was a type of monkey.
Edit: Wikipedia says:
Not to be confused as Tamarin, a kind of monkey.
That could cause some confussion.
I did not realize tamarind is not native to Mexico.
My Summer is frustrating.
I'm working about 28 hours a week ( a lot for me!) yet I find myself still struggling to pay my rent and everything else.
I'm down to £100! ![]()
Need to buy an N router too. ![]()
Work has been fairly grim so far this summer, it's not a fun time to work for an investment bank. Just when it seems like the markets are stabilising and we can relax a little, something funky happens like the yield curve inverting or Fannie and Freddie nearly going tits up. I've been out of the office for two weeks, back to the madness and doom and gloom on Monday. Ho hum, at least I still have a job to go back to.... for now at least.
On the plus side, I just got back from an afternoon shopping and have bought lots of pretty things to cheer me up. ![]()
In order of time spent, I just seem to...work, sleep, commute, eat and apply for jobs. Got an interview on Friday, for a job I really want...fingers crossed! If I get it, it would mean saving time (20-30mins commuting each way, rather than 1h30) and better money (saving on commuting, and better salary). The commuting's also playing havoc with my back, which is a bit sore.
In terms of holidays - my girlfriend and I spent 3 days in London last month (good to see you, Spode!)...that'll probably be all we get until at least Christmas! ![]()
