it is definitely 2 x 2gb sticks that are in there. I'm going to flash the BIOS again. :S

Yeah, something odd going on there. Do you have an onboard graphics card stealing any of it?

If bios flashing doesn't help, try them one at a time and see if one (or both!?!) of them comes up as less than 2GB. One of your sticks might be b0rked...

Flashed from 1226 to 1232 which is the latest version an it is still showing as exactly the same. (3008mb)

I don't think any onboard graphics are stealing anything considering I've got the x1900xt with 512mb? Onboard graphics are disabled.

I'm gona give CB's method a go an see what the results are. Pretty weird still though that, CPUZ is finding the full 4gb but the BIOS and Windoze aren't. :erm:

tested each stick independantly and each time they showed perfectly as 2048mb 'Memory Available' in the BIOS. Just when they're together, it shows as 3008mb 'Memory Available'. I'm totally stuck for ideas, or even for an explanation.

I think i'll root around for a Ubuntu Live CD an see what I come up with from that.

(Linux live memtest) sums it up....

    3007mb

Definitely at an all time low for conjuring up new ways to try an figure what's wrong. :(

    What motherboard/chipset is this?

Asus P5B Deluxe motherboard and P965 chipset. I seem to remember that the BIOS did actually show I had 4096mb of memory installed when I had an older bios, so I may flash it to an older one when I get back from work.

Other than that, have you got any thoughts?

    http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/linux-hardware-18/cant-see-4-gb-ram-with-asus-p5b-deluxe-x8664-fedora-core-6-518372/

Found that! Exactly same problem I'm having, but the solution I am abit lost on seeing as I'm using XP at the moment and not Fedora....

I'm not sure that's a lot of help - apart from trying the REMAP bios setting it mentions.

    Problem

My P5B series motherboard suppose to suppose up to 8GB of RAM. However, I cannot get even close to 4GB in total under Windows XP/2000/2003.
Why is that? Is there anything I can do to fix this?

    Answer

There are two parts to this question:
    1. Limitation of operating system.
    2. Limitation of X86 compatible computer architecture.

OS wise, it is known that due to limitation of 32bit OS (e.g. Windows XP/2000/2003), it will not be able to address the full capacity of 4GB as it supports up to 4GB of RAM at max, but some of the addressing bits are used up for addressing PCI/PCI-e devices.
Please kindly switch to use 64bit operating system such as Windows XP 64bit or Server 2003 64bit to enable support of the full capacity of your RAM.

Hardware wise, please simply enter BIOS setup screen, and set "Advanced-->Chipset-->Northbridge Configuration-->Memory Remap Feature" to "Enabled".

If both requirements are fulfilled, your system should then be able to detect the full capacity of your RAM when 4GB or more RAM are installed onto this system.

Got there in the end, just need to reluctantly buy Vista 64bit. :) :(

Ordered Vista 64, I'm determind to get this working how I want it.

    Oh and in other news:

    Stock Intel Cooler 'Prime95'= 73'c
    Zalman 9700 'Prime95'= 45'c

Was mildly excited that I lost almost 30'c but with the size comparison it's hardly unexpected.

Whooop! Got there in the end! :D Although my CPU is actually overclocked at 3.2ghz so not sure why it doesnt show that.

Had to Enable Memory Remapping in the BIOS an it's all working. Happy Days!

Sort of deviated away from the main problem which was COD4, but I'm happy none the less

I'll install that tonight an then, if it works with playable performance, we can have drinks all round. (b) :D
