Installed add-ons.
I'm not being funny, but Chrome is by far the fastest browser I have ever used, it absolutely cains Firefox/Opera hands down.
Not only that but installation is a breeze, you can import all your firefox info, the interface is so simple yet ingenious.
Golly, this is good.
Try it.
I am actually frightened by how quick this is, there's absolutely no page-load time whatsoever, bar a blink of the eye.
I've been fiddling with it a little today under VirtualBox and I have to admit, I really like it. The application integration (ability to turn a webpage into an icon on your desktop) which works flawlessly with Google Mail, has me sold.
As soon as a version comes out for Linux, I'm switching, without a doubt. It's also crazy fast - loads up in seconds and copes really well with multiple tabs.
Did you notice that when you first installed it, it gave you the option of choosing your default search engine? On this HP I've got here, the default search was AOL - and it defaulted to that, it DIDN'T overwrite the setting. I guess they are trying to show they aren't going to force people from day one... Hell, I'm not even sure I would have done that ![]()
I knew it would be good - this IS Google, but for a first attempt, this is ridiculously good.
Maybe Google's bubble hasn't burst after all ![]()
Ha. Indeed, this seems really good. I like that it's open source too, they seem keen to share what they are doing.
If only M$ had a similar attitude?
It's remarkably standards-compliant, too. It's the only browser so far which correctly interprets the CSS at the Trevs JCR website (www.dur.ac.uk/trevelyan.jcr) which on every other browser has at least one problem.
Apparently it's not without its issues; try downloading the latest drivers from nVidia's website, for example. I've also noticed that animated GIFs are very jerky. Haven't tried out Flash or Javascript performance, both of which are fairly poor on Firefox.
And nobody's written any extensions yet! How dare they not have put their noses to the grindstone and created thousands already? ![]()
Geez Lolly, it's still in beta. ![]()
Are there going to BE any extensions?

So's Gmail...

Apparently!
I have to admit - there are a couple of extensions I love, but mainly for development. So for every day use - I'd happily switch. Roll on Linux version!
I works very well, but it does seem to have a few issues. Mrs V tried to watch an on demand TV programme on channel 5. Mmm, no go! I have't tried BBCi yet I'm going to play a bit more. ![]()
iPlayer works fine, I've personally had stability issues with Youtube videos, but I'm sure this is all basically minor stuff that will be ironed out - it makes no difference to my opinion of the browser, which I think is fantastic.
Have you seen the way you can expand any text box form item so it's larger?
Also, if you have an application defined (like I have Gmail) and you press CTRL+T to open a new tab, it opens a new tab in a Google Chrome window and puts it's focus there. There are a lot of really well thought out things.
I love how ALL the media formats are integrated, including WMA.
Genius.
Without a doubt, Chrome is very impressive, So many things not only work better, but it also does so much more. The integration with everything Google is very useful. I'm not sure whether you could paste a complete URL or a search name in to the search bar with Firefox, but it works fine on Chrome.
One thing - why can't I scroll pages with this thing by holding down the scroll wheel and moving the mouse?
Trust me to come up with a negative, huh?
![]()
I can't do that either CeeBee. The other strange thing with the scroll wheel is it does three lines at a time, even though it's set in the control panel to one line.
I'm sure all these little things will be sorted out in the near future. (I hope)

That's a Webkit feature; Safari does it too.
I'm not feeling particularly articulate this morning - Karl and I were up until 1 talking about Chrome, amongst other things, and I was woken up by the sound of a frog screaming (who knew?).
Anyway, after spending a whole day using Chrome - coming back to FireFox today feels slow and I miss the Google integration into the address bar
Roll on Linux version!
2 things, Spodeyboy - try installing fasterfox in firefox, and try creating a new profile. For some reason, firefox seems to slow down with use, and creating a new profile (and copying across your bookmarks) seems to fix the slowness.
And because the slowness creeps in so very incrementally, you don't notice it until you compare it to a fresh browser...
Instructions on how to speed up firefox
I know you're using linux, but it's probably still the same solution (with install locale differences)...
Oh dear, I think you should all read this.

Yeah, I saw that. I'm not that worried - I'll just use incognito mode until they fix it.
Luckily I am not planning on using Chrome or FF or any version of IE for my financials. ![]()
Konqueror, then? ![]()
