I've looked everywhere for an answer to this problem. (More of an annoyance really) For some reason some of the text in Outlook express and a few other text windows have red coloured letters, mostly capitals, but not exclusively. The text on this blog is not affected.

I have checked the video drivers are up to date and correct on both the machines that use this monitor. (iiyama ProLite E2202WS) There is an ATEN KVM switch used on the two machines and disconnecting it and using either rig straight doesn't cure it. The res is running in spec at 1680 X 1050 at 60 Hz. GFX cards are 8800 GTS and a 9800 GT

Is this a little bug from our friends at Microsoft? Has anyone seen this before? Any comments would be gratefully received. :D

Can you get a screen shot? Sounds odd.

I can try. I will look for a non personal mail that shows it up. (I hope)

You can always blur out words you don't want to show.

Off the top of my head - I'm thinking that Microsoft's font smoothing might be at work.

Annoyingly I cant! whatever I do to save the screenshot the red tinge disappears. I guess it must be something to do with the way Outlook express renders text. Some other text code must be the same, but not all text typing in boxes are affected. Word is fine? Strangely, Parentheses brackets here are tinged red. This is weird!!! Perhaps this monitor is not so good?

Or it could well be your graphics card or monitor on the way out. Try plugging another monitor in?

I hope not, the monitor is only about six months old, as is the 8800GTS and the 9800 is brand new. I do have my old iiyama E418S. That needs several thumps to make it work! I will try that and see if it's still there. Somewhere I have a 15" EIZO CRT pro monitor that was given to me that has an accurate colour rendition for, well, pro use. Now I wonder where I put that?
I will let you know what happens.

Which version of Outlook, and for how long has this problem occurred?

it's outlook express 6. I'm not sure when I first noticed the problem, maybe after building my new rigs and buying this iiyama monitor. It seems to be getting worse, or maybe I'm just noticing it more. When I get some time I will beat the old monitor in to life and see what happens.
All the text is extremely clear with no fuzzing or distortion, just the red tinge to some upper case letters, numbers and symbols. :S

Sounds like ClearType going wrong. Try turning it off (Display properties) and see if it helps.

That's the word I was looking for. Stuck in Linux Land for too long to remember the name :P

After over two hours of adjusting this monitor I've cracked it, well almost. The red tinge is almost not noticeable. I think having a very high brightness and contrast ratio (300 cd/m2/1000:1) is maybe a bit too clever when the controls are extremely difficult to use. you need to be quick as the on screen display only stays on for around one second. Not helpful

When I get rid of this headache I will tweak it some more with the nVidia control panel. All these controls seem fairly pointless when the panel is only a TN type!

Thanks for all the suggestions, it all helps to learn that bit more. :D
