at PC World. When I was backing up some of my older vinyl recordings, I have found some of them have the inevitable scratches. Does anyone know of a decent programme that I can use to remove these. Doing it manually is OK by me, but I don't want something that destroys the quality of the recording.
I've seen a few and have a fairly grotty proggie with the Soiundblaster suite on one on the rigs, but it's not so good and I have no idea what the others are like. Any ideas?
I use Audacity to clean up tape recording transfers. I don't know how well it works with vinyl. Might be worth a shot though. I wrote a tutorial on how to clean up wav recordings with Audacity. It is a couple of years old and has an MD recording angle but I am sure you can fill in the blanks. It can be found here:
That looks the biz Ivan, I will have to play with that. I assume you can cut out the peaks on the clicks from scratches by expanding the display? I don't find general noise a problem, but I bet Audacity has many facets. I will let you know how I get on with it.
Thank you Ivan, I'm much obliged. ![]()
IIRC I think it has a "Pop and scratches" filter in the filter set, but yes, you can expand the display to search for peaks in the wave form. I have removed certain pops/clicks (unwanted button clicks and such) this way so it should work for vinyl pops.
Glad I could help and will be waiting to see how it works for you. ![]()
