My parents have been working on their website recently, getting some Christmas promotions in place, for those that want to rent a holiday home over the Christmas period. I thought I'd lend them a hand by leveraging off my Google juice, and sorting out a special 5% off offer, for all you lovely Spode's Abode readers.

Anyone who doesn't know, during the summer months my parents run a Bed & Breakfast out of their Italian Farmhouse. All year round, they have two other self-catering properties that they rent out to for longer periods. These work out at great value for money, especially with the deals on flights to Genoa that both Ryanair and BA are doing. I've booked in advance before and had return flights for as cheap as £25!

They are based around 45 minutes from Genoa, and set in the mountains. It's really quite idyllic and somewhere I like to go to relax. I'm going to be booking up a week at some point soon, so I can go out there to work on my book, without the distractions of London life.

Looking at the site, renting a holiday cottage over Christmas for seven days would cost a lowly 450 Euros. How's that for credit crunch friendly?

However, I've been given permission to offer 5% off, to anyone booking five nights or more. That brings the price down from 450 Euros to 427.50. As my dad would say, that's better than a poke in the eye. All you have to do is mention me when booking and 5% will be deducted from your bill!

You're getting quite good at this discount thing! If I mention you when I am next booking flights from Melbourne to London will I get 75% off? Pretty please?

Hmmms. One of these years the family has to go on an Italian vacation. Do you speak Italian, Spode?

Tried the link, got to http://www.cascina-aie.com/ chose the UK flag, clicked on "Book now for ..." and it opened a PDF http://www.cascina-aie.com/natale-prezzi-2008-11-a5.pdf in Italian ... all very nice, but not what I was expecting. Looks a lovely place, maybe when I am employed again ...

By way of explanation to others who may be reading Dave's comment: there isn't a ' bad link'.

If Italian language may be 'not what you were expecting' , remember that this is very much real Italy and not main stream tourist town, type 'blackpool in the sun' - 99% of any people you meet will not speak English.

The cottages are quite independant from the farmhouse. We are here in an emergency but otherwise you are on your own. You will have to drive on the right and cope with almost everything being only in Italian. In the village, most older people speak Piemontese as their first language, in fact.

Thus, rather than spend lots of time getting a word perfect translation, I decide to post the same publicity that I had used locally. Independant travellers, usually tend to value authenticity and enjoy the experience of different language and culture. The flyer is a taster of things to expect, so to speak.

There is still a gap for Christmas, as a possible, but New Year is now fully booked. If any one has still not decided what they are doing, I am pasting a link to a google translation, just to make it easy.

Remember, it's only a ten hour drive from Calais. You can do it in day, with two driving and a good car.
