at PC World.I went ahead and ordered an HP laptop. My old Acer Sempron 3K laptop is being donated to a local church that needs a computer badly.
I just need to transfer all the data and wipe it once the new laptop arrives.
My wife will be the main user on the lappy along with my daughters. Since most of their usage is web surfacing and office document creation I ordered with that in mind.

I was going to get the glass screen but decided against it at the last minute. After reading up on it, I did not consider it worth the expense. Microsoft Works will be replaced with Open Office. I just hope this thing does not run too hot. ![]()
It arrived a couple of weeks ago and I have had a chance to play with it. I like the sturdiness. It seems smaller than my old laptop even though it actually is the same screen size. It has a lot of shiney surfaces and the white LED's look nice.
HDMI output is a surprise as is the remote control it came with. I did not order those options and did not think they were part of the base package.

I *really* need some new RAM ![]()
It's very shiny!
I hate to admit that this is my first real exposure to Vista. I am lost in it. Some things are where you expect them others, like ad hoc wireless networking, I am having troubles setting up. My cousin came to visit last night and we tried to set one up. It just would not work. It said we were connected. I could see his computer and he could see mine. It just would not allow us to transfer files.
I had file sharing turned on, so did he. Nothing seemed to work. We resorted to burning the files to DVD.

Resorting to such archaic methods just isn't RIGHT.
