This one's mostly going out to Spode, even though he doesn't generally use saddles...

I have a spinner bike I spend a lot of time on - currently 2x30mins a day (working back up to 3x30mins, target is 4x30mins) - but it's punishing my poor ass/tailbone. My atb doesn't give me any such problems, even when cycling for 2 hours straight (down the Thames, halfway to Dartford and back) - but the atb mangles my wrists, so...

Now, I've tried putting the saddle from the mtb on the spinner and vice-versa, and still the spinner hurts to ride when the atb doesn't. I tried putting one of these gel monsters (with suspension) on:

And no joy! It's a little less uncomfy, but still not great.

It's a pain in the ass (literally) - I think it's down to the angle being different to the atb, and probably something to do with the fact that a lot of the time I'm not sitting when I'm on the atb - but still, it shouldn't make *that* much difference that I can go 2 hours on one without a twinge, and after 10 minutes on the other it starts hurting!

    Any ideas?

I find with saddles, it's trial and error to finding the right one - but I find it odd that you're taking a saddle that you know you like from your bike to the spinner and still struggling.

I would suggest you need to adjust the angle?

Adjusted it this morning - I think I went too far and now my back hurts...

Moved it halfway between and that seemed more comfortable. I'll know for sure soon enough.

I have a friend that goes on 40-50 mile bike rides on a regular basis. He had a tailbone injury and purchased a saddle that is split right down the middle. Says it works like a charm. Looks like this one:

Thanks to everyone for your help - I found that adjusting the angle helped. I am, however, suffering still from something I didn't mention before - a problem with numbness, which I'm told is down to pressure on a nerve.

That saddle you posted, Ivan, I think that'd be a good way of relieving pressure on that nerve - what's it called/where's it from?

That does look really quite cool - I'd quite like to try one!

I'm trying to find a supplier that'll ship to the UK, spode - I found out what it's called. It's a "Hobson Easyseat Ergonomical Dual Pad Saddle" - if I find a supplier that'll ship to the UK, I'll let you know.

I found it on Amazon by serarching for "split saddle". Yeah, my friend complained about the numbness too. That was taken care of with this saddle.
