I installed 3ds max yesterday and it was working fine.
But when I booted up my PC today, after getting my desktop a few sconds would pass and then the screen goes blank, except for the mouse. Trying to load up task manager didn't work.
I used system restore and got my PC back, but it meant deleting 3ds Max, so 3ds max seems to be the problem. Vista hinted that the issue lies with Direct X. I know 3DS Max does something to direct x when it installs so I think this is the problem.

Is there a way around this? I really need this program to work so I can do my project.
I dunno if maybe there's some kind of Direct X patch, or maybe I can stop 3ds max from patching direct X because it isnt necessary.

I think that's a bit too specific for here Mike. Have you tried re-installing and/or checking it's Vista compatible?

Yeah, it's definitely Vista compatible. I'll try a reinstall, its an epic program takes a long time to install.
I've moved the topic into software - sorry about that.
