    As the title says, do they? I seem to remember Lolly having a problem with a lappie that was loaded with Vista and an SSD that wouldn't run with XP loaded. I wonder if there is a patch available now, or it just doesn't work.

    SSDs are fine I think as long as the BIOS can emulate ATAPI. You won't get the benefits of the power saving though.

    Loads of netbooks use SSDs with XP. The issue Lolly had was a hybrid drive if I recall...

    Mmm interesting, thanks chaps. I've noticed the price is dropping fast for these drives and maybe a little dabble is in order when they come down a bit more. I would hate to buy one and find it doesn't work on XP.

    The hybrid drive works but you don't get the benefit of the flash and associated power savings. :-(

    No, it's because XP doesn't know what to do with the flash bit so it ignores it. This means that the drive won't spin down as often as it does if it uses the flash as a big cache.
