Does not look like much but last night a strange light was seen in our nothern skies. It hovered for a long time. My friend called me up to see what it was. Pulled out my binoculars and you could clearly tell it was a balloon of some sort. Apparently it caused a lot of buzz around here as local TV stations made mention of the event. One station went a little further and discovered exactly who was handeling the project. We have air force, army, NASA, and other government installations all around this area so it took some time to track down. It turned out to be a balloon NASA had sent up with a gamma ray telescope as cargo. This is a link to the type of balloon: http://www.csbf.nasa.gov/balloons.html
This is the clearest pic I could get of it. Pentax istDL in manual mode with my 70-210mm zoomed to max:

I've always wondered how they aim those scopes unless they are really wide field (if they're looking for gamma ray bursts I guess it would be). Otherwise there must be a lot of clever things going on.
This is one of my favourites from my recent trip to Canada.

Caught a double rain bow this past weekend.

Caught this one day before yesterday but it just cannot been done any justice as the colors were way more vivid.

Had a play with Photoshop recently on some older pictures. Came up with this.

Edit: This is not a composite.
What an interesting composition Pete. That would look great framed on a suitable wall somewhere. ![]()

We had snow for a second time this season. All pictures taken with my Samsung Instinct phone.

I woukld love to go ride the tube all over yours. ![]()
Try to avoid the rush hours when you do, or you'll end up face-to-armpit with someone smelly. It's a daily nightmare for us.
Tell you what, I'll show you round mine if you show me round yours!

You have yourself a deal. ![]()
Ice crystals that developed on the roof of my car. Rough guess but they were about 3-7mm tall. Just never seen anything like it before.

Must have had mist, and then the temp fell below 0. I can't think of any other way that you'd get something like that forming.
Very, very cool.
Wow Ivan, I thought that was frosty grass or a carpet! How fascinating.
It was a sight to see. ![]()

What a beautiful animal CeeBee and superbly captured, nice ones ![]()
Duplication of post, I edited the second one to this. Spode, can you sort out the wrong time zone message ?
I thought I had - dammit!
