I've decided that I should probably blog what I choose to use as my desktop background. My current choice is this wonderful composition of the sun rising and setting.

This was taken by Anda Bereczky, who also has some other wonderful shots. I found this through Google Images, where fresh-paper.com had stolen his images.

That's cool. Made me think of something I'd seen in an astronomy book years ago:

BTW - How do I make that a link?

    Edit: I see now...

Much like most of my desktop wallpapers, they are found using the trusty Google image search. Hunting around for an "arctic sunset", I came across this page which contains a selection of icey, wintery themed pictures.

Most of these pictures are quite low quality, so end up a little speckled. Running through the despeckle filter in GIMP helped a lot.

The cool blue colour soothes me while I work :)

Oh Winter was sooo last season! :P

I've really fallen in love with sunsets at the moment (roll on with the summer!) especially this one with the stars.

    Here it is high resolution:

Nice picture. With the crispness and evenness of the stars and the lack of discernible constellations it does appear to have been 'improved' slightly. Better than reality though I think.

I was looking for an alpine picture the other day to get me in the mood for an upcoming holiday and came across this site:

Hope you don't mind, I made it my wallpaper too. It goes really nice with the Mac'ish looking theme I am using right now. :D

    Of course I don't mind - that's why I post these things!

I was thinking the other day that it might be quite nice if some of you guys posted some of your own pictures, as potential desktop backgrounds, and I could pick my favourite and stick it on the front page :)

It's a lovely picture, don't get me wrong. But I'm just not sure it screams desktop background. Maybe I should set a theme...
