Ok, this little problem on the computer I built for my Mum is realy bugging me!
Basically, when you boot up Vista, it shows the attached image for three different files located in System32. I presume they are files to do with the motherboard as they only showed up after I installled the motherboards software.
I've tried unchecking the box. I've tried adding the files to the DEP exceptions list. I've tried going into each files properties and allowing it through there.
But the boxes still pop up.
It's a minor problem - but if anyone has any ideas my Mum would be very grateful!
Well, first you could try getting rid of "Always ask before opening this file" but your best bet is not to run it at all.
Click Start, type msconfig and press Enter. Go to the startup list and remove the three offending items. Restart, click "don't show the system configuration utility every time Windows starts" and you should be fine.
And take them off the DEP exceptions list! You should never have any DEP exceptions except in exceptional circumstances. (hehe)
You don't think their essential files for running the PC?
And yeah, tried unchecking that silly little box. ![]()
No, it looks like it's just a silly tray utility that lets you change your screen resolution with 3 clicks rather than 5.
Whilst you're at it, get rid of things like Messenger.exe, Acrobat startup (wastes memory when you aren't using Acrobat reader) and that sort of thing. You can always turn them on again if it removes functionality you're interested in.
