Tuesday night I found my way to the Virgin Media launch of the The Sarah Connor Chronicles, which launched last night (21st) on V1 here in the UK. The event itself was pretty cool, with laser quest, terminator-esque make up and of course a screening of the new show. Below you can see an example of the makeup, courtesy of David Braithwaite at BBC Radio 5 (who also accused me of cheating at laser quest :P).

I can't say I get particularly excited about celebrities and I very rarely have a need to talk to them, so just leave them alone. I did however, meet Charlie Simpson of Busted fame, who has now moved on to his new band Fightstar. This meant I was able to prove once and for all that I look nothing like him, despite constantly being stopped on the street, and even people in our very forums suggesting so. 5 years ago, I could see the similarity, but now, not only is he at least a foot taller than me, his look has matured a lot, no longer looking like me at all.

I must admit, I was very tempted to strike up a conversation with Leigh Francis, but was worried I would come away questioning my own sanity.

I am a big fan of the Terminator series, so I was looking forward to the screening immensely. Many people felt T3 wasn't very good, but I think if you consider it to be a standalone film, rather than a continuation of the series, it was in fact very good. The Sarah Connor Chronicles aims to fill the gap between T2 and T3, bringing action and apparently a love interest too – aiming to please everyone. It's also doing very well in America where it has been launched already.

The first episode felt more like a short film and didn't leave you on a cliffhanger like you would expect a series to do, but still left me wanting for more. The action was good, and I felt it did justice to the terminator series. The character selection was good too – but if I was going to criticise any, it would be of John Connor, where I felt he just wasn't anti-social enough and played too much of a “good boy”.

It has the typical action you'd expect, with both male and female terminators battling it out. It wasn't too gory, and kept my interest throughout. I do enjoy my science fiction shows, and I'll have to add this to my list.

I guess the biggest downside for the Freeview users amongst us, is that it will only be broadcast on V1 or Sky channel 121. If I can push my annoyance at the Uma Thurman adverts aside, I might consider subscribing to Virgin Media. They do have some good package deals at the moment, especially if you're after a joint mobile/broadband deal. If you're a terminator fan, this might tip the scales a little towards checking them out.

Well I had a go at watching it and rapidly got bored. I can see the show going on and on with the same old fight with Terminators. As you say Spode "John" is far to goody goody. I did enjoy the Terminator films, but enough is enough for me.
Like the spin off series from the "Blade" films, what a load of tosh (To be polite) No one could follow Wesley Snipes as Blade and again it's the same thing over and over again.

What we really need is some new S/F, something new and different. I guess most stories have been told in all forms of entertainment and it would take someone with an incredible imagination to conjure up something fresh and exciting.

Farscape was great, especially as the end series was produced on DVD, so it did actually finish. That was just long enough not to get stale.

Babylon 5 was also brilliant and it did have an ending. OK, it seems a shame when a great series ends, but it's not stale and boring. This also goes for the Startrek series. Perhaps "Enterprise" could have gone on a little more rather than having the crass ending, but it was cancelled as seems to be the thing these days. If it ain't makin' money, dump it.

Have there been any spin offs that I actually liked? I can't think of one, then perhaps I'm easily bored?

They are both good, I've only seen one series of Atlantis, so I'm not sure how that one has panned out. Sky seems to have stolen/out bid all the terrestrial channels for all the good stuff. I was in to "Lost", then Sky nabbed it.
I had a year of Sky and nearly went mad with all the advertising and constant repeats. I'll not go there again. No sat dishes are allowed here now anyway and cable doesn't exist.

I caught a couple of episodes of Lost online, but it was soon removed, well what did I expect really. :(
